Black and White Space

I'm excited to share this card with you today - I'm really happy with how it turned out!  It's actually black and cream, not black and white, but I don't think the photo shows that very well.  The card measures 5.5" x 5.5" and I scored the base with my paper trimmer and scoring blade. 

The typewriter image is from Cornish Heritage Farms, who is Gingersnap Creation's sponsor this month.  You HAVE to go and read the interview that Sharon did with Liz and Richard Pomeroy, the owners of Cornish Heritage - it's totally awesome!  I love that Sharon does these monthly interviews with stamp company owners.  It's so much fun to find out who's behind the rubber!

Rainbow Color Challenge

This is one of the cards I created for the current Color Challenge over on Gingersnaps, which is to use the colors of the rainbow. 

To make the butterflies, I attached pieces of found papers (old books and letters, sheet music etc) to sturdy white card stock and ran them through my Big Shot machine with the SU Butterfly die. 

I added color with SU pastels and sponge daubers.  And finished them off with a little bling and sponging around the edges.

The black background is a piece of embossed black c/stock I found lying at the bottom of my drawer (you never know what you'll find at the bottom of those drawers!).  The sentiment is from Art Phrases II by Invoke Arts.

Sweet & Simple Sunday & Some Changes

Happy weekend everyone! 

You might have noticed some changes to my blog over the past few days.  At the end of July, my design team term finished with Shimmerz.  I will not be posting as many Shimmerz projects, but you can click on 'Shimmerz Projects' in the sidebar categories section for plenty of shimmering inspiration.  I will now have more time to devote to my other commitments - my Stampin' Up! customers, Gingersnap Creations and having some good old stamping fun!

Enough of that, it's time to share another sweet & simple card with you.  This one is a little different, but it does reflect my split stamping personality. 

Some days I love to make cards like this:

And other days, I like to create projects like this (which are the kind you'll find on Gingersnap Creations):

Most days I find it hard to combine my love of vintage with my love of clean lines and white space.  This card is an attempt to do just that.  At the center of the main panel is a rusty old key that is embellished with a rhinestone and ribbon. The key is adhered to a chipboard heart covered with a scrap from an old dictionary and all this is mounted onto a silver paint chip from the hardware store.

Bright Challenges

I'm so excited because I'm actually stamping again - I managed to make two cards this morning and now I'm on a roll!

These two challenge cards are bright, bright, bright!  I made the first for Splitcoaststampers Clean & Simple challenge, which was to use orange, yellow and turquoise.  I bought this Denami stamp several months ago and it hadn't seen ink until today.  It's not the type of image I'd normally buy, I was trying to push myself out of my comfort zone.  There's not much else to say about it, aside from it was colored with Copic markers.  All supply details are below.

The second card is for this month's Gingersnap Creations color challenge, which is to use citrus colors.  For the layout of the card, I used the Clean & Simple Stamping sketch from last week.  And my new SU punch called modern label - you can't live without it!

Oxford Tag Card

I have a double challenge card for you today.  The clean and simple challenge on Splitcoast, which was to use sparkle on your project.  And Gingersnap Creations supply challenge to use a tag on a project.

The main image is from a plate by Oxford Impressions called The Bird's Nest.  I used the Sponge and Shimmer technique to create the background and then stamped the bird collage image over the top.  I was inspired by Sharon's post last week about Ideology Fragments, so cracked open my unused package of tags and added it to this card.

Red, White and Blue Cupcakes

I promise this will be last red, white and blue creation for a while - honest!  I received some newly released stamps from Pink Persimmon last week and when I saw the Flower Greetings set, I knew instantly that I wanted to make cupcake picks with it. 

I saw later that Pink Persimmon had a cupcake challenge on their blog, so that made up my mind - cupcake picks it was.  We have a red, white and blue challenge on the Gingersnap Creations blog, so my colors were all set too. 

The picks are wooden kebab sticks from the grocery store.  I cut them down to about 6" with my rubber scissors (probably not very good for my scissors) and colored in the top portion with a copic marker.  The section that is stuck in the cake has no marker - I'm guessing that the marker wouldn't taste good, although it is an alcohol marker - hmmmm.

The satin ribbon rosette and all the layers on top of it are stuck to a 1 3/8" circle with a large glue dot, and taped to the back of the kebab stick with a piece of Scotch tape.  Here's a closer look at the medallions:

They are a little time consuming to make, but so much fun.  I can't wait to make them for my daughter's birthday in August.

It's Wednesday and time for another Crafty Creations challenge.  I'm hosting this week and chose the theme Stars and Stripes in honor of July 4.  Head over there to check out the other design team members' creations and this week's prize.

I also made the card for Gingersnap Creations color challenge - red, white and blue. 

 

The only stamping on the card is the Polka Dot background which was stamped with white craft ink and heat embossed with white e/p.

Two Challenges

I have two challenges for you today.  Over at Gingersnap Creations I'm hosting the color challenge this month.  If you haven't already guessed the colors are red, white and blue. 

I wanted to think outside the box and make a non-patriotic card.  It turned out like a Valentines card (hmmm - wrong season!), but I like it anyway and will probably use it for my wedding anniversary in August.  It uses a stamp from our Manufacturer in the Spotlight, Oxford Impressions.

The second card is for the Crafty Creations Challenge, where the theme this week is gardens.  It uses Morning Soft, a retiring stamp set from Stampin' Up! that I'm sorry to see go.

I encourage you to stretch yourself and try these challenges.  They are lots of fun - happy creating!

More Challenges

Do you need a creative challenge?  Here's another two that I'm taking part in this week:

Over at Gingersnaps, I'm hosting a Journey themed challenge.  Here's one of the projects I created for it.  The car and sentiment were stamped on coffee-dyed manilla tags.  I always have a stack of these lying around and they came in very handy for this card.  The twine wrapped around the card is from the tags too.

And over at Crafty Creations, the challenge this week is 'Sea and Sand'.  Check out the awesome sponsor this week.

I water colored this lighthouse scene from Impression Obsession and mounted it on a large 6" x 5.5" Bashful Blue base.

If you haven't tried a challenge recently, I would definitely encourage you to.  They help to push you out of your comfort zone, but at the same time give your project some focus (something I often lack!).
