Top Note Quilt Cards

I love making these Top Note Quilt cards.  It's not a new idea, but they are so much fun, I just had to share.  And they are such a great way to use up designer paper scraps. 

I made this card today using Razzleberry Lemonade designer paper from the new 2009/2010 Idea Book & Catalog.  Scroll down to the end of the post for more samples.

Here are a couple more examples.  The first is made with Bella Bleu designer paper and Kraft cardstock that I ran through a Texturz plate.  The second is a club card we made in May with the now retired Bella Rose paper.

Flower Pot Bookmark Card

    

I made this project back in April with my Stamp Club and I promised them written directions on how to make it.  I feel bad it's taken me so long, but here is a quick photo tutorial on how it's made.  It is very similar to this Splitcoast Tutorial and I got the original idea from Stephanie Luman - thank you Stephanie.  My dimensions and directions are slightly different, so feel free to follow whichever make most sense to you.  Click on the photo if you wish to see a larger version.

Crafty Creations Wednesday

We have some new design team members over at Crafty Creations.  Head over, check out their beautiful work and say 'hi'.  Deena set us a great challenge this week: create something inspired by the artist Lauren Alexander. 

Lauren's art is so much fun!  It's full of whimsical birds and bright colors, so I chose this cute little bird from Cheep Talk and one of the new In Colors Melon Mambo.

Here's how I created the main panel.  It's a 3" x 4" piece of watercolor paper that received a light wash of Bashful Blue ink and once dry was sponged with a little Melon Mambo ink.  I drew a thick line with a Chocolate Chip marker and dragged the ink downwards to create the hill that the bird sits on.  The tree from Season of Friendship was stamped with Chocolate Chip and the leaves from the same set with Old Olive ink.  The Melon Mambo flowers are from the Cheep Talk set and their centers are highlighted with a white gel pen.

Yellow CAS Card

Get your sunglasses ready for this one!  I decided to try a color combination from the Stampin' Up! website: Crushed Curry, Pale Plum, Rich Razzleberry and Almost Amethyst (which I left out).  And now I'm in distress - I discovered that I'm yellow phobic!

I like So Saffron and Barely Banana and I can handle More Mustard during the Fall.  But bright yellows, like Yoyo Yellow or the new Crushed Curry bring me out in hives.  They're just way too bright for my taste.  I will persevere with yellow, although I guess it doesn't help when I decide to use a bright yellow as the card base, now does it!  

To the card.... I made it for today's Clean and Simple challenge on Splitcoast and it measures 5.25 x 5.25".  I stamped the three hearts from Love You Much with Rich Razzleberry onto the two different colored c/stocks and punched them out with the Triple Heart Punch - I love how they line up perfectly!  As a final touch, I added a little liquid Tombo to the hearts and sprinkled with Dazzling Diamonds. 

I could not lay my hands on my Stamp-a-ma-jig and I knew that the sentiment would come out crooked if I didn't use it.  So, I stamped 'Happy Anniversary' from Teeny Tiny Wishes on a scrap, punched it out with the Word Window Punch and dragged the Rich Razzleberry ink pad along the edges to make it stand out a little. 

Stampin' Up!'s final Deal of the Week is the Triple Heart Punch.  And while I was making this card, I wondered why I only use the punch and the coordinating stamp set, Love You Much, for Valentine projects?  They can be used year round for wedding and shower projects, anniversary cards and cute little notes for your kids.  Who knew?

Bright Challenges

I'm so excited because I'm actually stamping again - I managed to make two cards this morning and now I'm on a roll!

These two challenge cards are bright, bright, bright!  I made the first for Splitcoaststampers Clean & Simple challenge, which was to use orange, yellow and turquoise.  I bought this Denami stamp several months ago and it hadn't seen ink until today.  It's not the type of image I'd normally buy, I was trying to push myself out of my comfort zone.  There's not much else to say about it, aside from it was colored with Copic markers.  All supply details are below.

The second card is for this month's Gingersnap Creations color challenge, which is to use citrus colors.  For the layout of the card, I used the Clean & Simple Stamping sketch from last week.  And my new SU punch called modern label - you can't live without it!

Flourishes & Shimmerz

Flourishes is sponsoring the Shimmerz Design Team this week and I chose to play with this beautiful Waterlilies set, which was released in June.  

I guess you would call this a mixed media card because I used watercolor paint, ink, Copic markers and Shimmerz.  Here's how I did it:

I mixed blue watercolor paint and December Sky Blingz into a thin wash and applied it over a watercolor panel.  Once the panel was dry, I stamped and masked the waterlilies, then stamped the lily pads all with Memento ink.  The lilies and pads were colored with shades of pink and green Copic markers.  Here's a close up view:

I trimmed the panel down to measure 3" x 4" and mounted it onto a black panel with 1/8" mat.  I finished it off with a sentiment from the same set and some pink silk ribbon that Flourishes also carries.

I was inspired by the colors in Kristina Werner's color challenge this week - they're just like a rainbow and are so bright and cheerful.

Challenges and a DT Call

Yes, I got to stamp for 30 minutes yesterday - it's a miracle!  I kept my card super simple and it turned out a lot brighter than I planned.  This isn't my normal color palate, but hey it's summer! 

I used a great sketch from Stamping 411 for the layout.  This is a great challenge site that I've just discovered and if you're looking for inspiration for Stampin' Up! projects, head over there asap!  I also made this card for Gingersnaps Spicy Supply challenge which is to use ribbon.  You all use ribbon on your cards, so head over there and enter the challenge.  That's a great prize package on offer this month too.

Missing...

Yes, I've been missing for a week.  And I've been missing stamping and blogging too.  I've have a virus which is stopping me doing just about everything, but I hope to be back in the saddle soon.

Here's a rare (for me) scrapbook page  that I made a while ago and I used it for the Crafty Creations Challenge this week, which is travel.  I'm sponsoring the prize this week, which is a whopping 25 yards of ribbon - check it out!
